John Lannigan was studying (or educated) for the Catholic priesthood. He met Mary Lanigan (a nun?). They married and were excommunicated from the church (or vice versa) and came to America. Someone told that after John and Thomas' death, Mary, the mother, took Mike and daughter, Mary, back to Ireland where she stayed 4 years and then returned to the U.S. again. [See Note #1]
Mildred Lannigan says father of John Edwdard was Marcus. Could it be "James Marcus"? [See Note #2]
My grandfather, Thomas Frederick, and his brother, Bob, debated about where to bury John Lannigan, their brother who died at Medical Lake, Washington. They decided as long as the hospital there had gotten all his money, they could pay to bury him. So he is buried at Medical Lake. Where did he get all his money? Oh, he worked in Alaska. Had he ever been married? Yes, he had a wife who died. Uncle Wally told Larry, he had a wife and little girl who both had died. Oh yeah, he did. [Note #3]
Details in a conversation between Mildred Lannigan and myself. June 21, 1981.

Notes: by Gary Edward Fredericksen, son of Nada
First my mother's Lannigan line: Nada, Ralph, Thomas Frederick, Michael Edward, John.
My mother's Jackson Line: Nada Lannigan Fredericken - Myrtle Jackson Lannigan - Dick Jackson - Andrew Jackson
[Note #1] After John Lannigan and his son died in St. Louis in 1855, Mary left son Michael with her sister and husband, Thomas and Peggy Maney. Michael is with them during the 1856 Kansas Census. Mary and her daughter, Mary, disappear from view and whether they went back to Ireland (which would be very expensive and difficult especially to come back 4 years later) or went back to New York. They only resurface when daughter Mary marries in Iowa in 1870.
[Note #2] Where did the James Marcus come from?
[Note #3] John Edward Lannigan died in a mental hospital
in Medical Lake, Washington.
